2011 - 2012 Competition Themes

  • Wed. Nov. 2, 2011 — Theme is Bridges (Note change in date due to conflict with library schedule)
  • Wed. Feb. 1, 2012 — Theme is Silhouettes
  • Mon. April 16, 2012 — Theme is Still Life

Scavenger Hunt Categories

There will be two (2) Scavenger Hunts again this year. One during our Dec. 19, 2011 Holiday Party and the other at the June 6, 2012 Picnic.

Choose 6 of the categories listed below and mount them on a 16x20 white board.

Monday, Dec. 19 Holiday Party:

Shoes, Something that runs, Old-fashioned, Ornate, Stitched, Flat, Organic, Rough, Electric, Melodious, Strong, Beverage

Wednesday, June 6 Picnic:

Sweet, Something that flies, Liquid, Scary, Dazzling, Something that grows, Sharp, Wrinkled, Salty, Comfortable, Fresh, Something Tied

Hershey Camera Club Competition Rules

(Revised April 2011)

Eligibility

Competitions are open to all members in good standing who have paid their current dues.

Photographs in the color and the black & white categories must have been taken by the competitor within two years of the competition date. Themed competition photographs have no time limit.

Competition Classes

Members may compete in either Class A or Class B.

Class A competitors include all those individuals who have earned 14 or more points in any one year’s competitions or those individuals who consider themselves to be experienced photographers and voluntarily elect to participate in this Class.

Class B competitors include all members new to the club (except for the above choice), those who have earned less than 14 points in the previous years competitions and those who consider themselves to be relatively inexperienced in photographic competitions.

A member must state his/her choice of class on entering his/her first competition.

Once in Class A, a member may not revert to Class B.

Competition Categories

    • COLOR PRINTS
      Three competitions per year
    • THEMED ENTRY (Themes to be announced)
      Three competitions per year
    • BLACK & WHITE PRINTS
      Three competitions per year

Number Of Entries

The following may be entered into each competition.

  • One (1) Color print
  • One (1) Themed print
  • One (1) Black & White print with 1 accent color allowed

Presentation of Prints

1. Prints

A. Prints must be at least 5 X 7 inches (35 sq.in.) and no more than 11 x 14 inches (154 sq.in.)

B. Prints must be mounted or matted (single mat only) for all categories. The mount or mat may be any color in a workmanlike fashion. Mounting or matting cannot be larger than 16 x 20 inches. (No frames or glass they won't fit in the display box and glass could break.)

C. The back of each mounting board must have a contest label (provided at the contest) showing the Title and Membership number. An arrow should point to the top of the print for proper orientation for viewing.

D. The original image must be made by the entrant on photographic emulsion or digital print medium. All images must be original and may not incorporate elements produced by someone else.

E. If the presentation does not meet specifications, the print will be disqualified and returned to photographer.

Judging - Based on a three judge panel

1. Criteria

Judges shall be instructed to score the photos according to the following criteria:

  • Interest or impact
  • Technical quality
  • Composition

2. Point System

Judges shall award points by scoring machine or in writing based on a 9-point system by the following evaluations:

  • Interest or impact — 1-3 points
  • Technical quality — 1-3 points
  • Composition — 1-3 points

3. Awards

A First, Second, Third and at least one Honorable Mention winner will be selected for each category at each competition. “Award Points” shall be assigned as follows:

  • First Place — 4 Award Points
  • Second Place — 3 Award Points
  • Third Place — 2 Award Points
  • Honorable Mention — 1 Award Point

At year's end, the members who have accumulated the most points in that year's competitions shall be recognized with an award for First, Second, Third place and Honorable Mention in each Class.
